Two years after “The Brooklyn Scotsman” aired on BBC, the story around the Edinburgh-based rapper legend Stevie Creed continues. In this (proof-of-concept) short documentary we accompany Stevie as he visits different fellow musicians from Edinburgh and the Scottish borders, exploring how the pandemic as well as personal life circumstances impacted their creative work.

Burns Night

Short Fantasy-comedy drama. 16 min., 2021, UK. Directed by Dennis Blass. 

Ian, a young man from Glasgow, hasn’t been able to speak to other women since his long-term girlfriend broke up with him. On Burns’ Night, he bumps into Scotland’s most famous bard, who turns out to be a terrible flirt advisor. Whilst Robert Burns is usually spoken about in documentaries, “Burns Night” brings the bard back to life in a comedy fiction setting and refers to his vivid love life with a wink.

Canonbone

‘Canonbone’ is a short fiction film that focuses on a young girl, Maebh and her friendship with a horse that helps her cope with the distance and isolation she feels from the people in her life, particularly her father. With the news that the horse is soon to be sold away,  Maebh becomes determined to avoid losing the most treasured bond in her life. Throughout the film, we witness the fractured relationship Maebh has with her father and how her determination helps rekindle the connection they once shared.

Say Hello, Never Look Back

Oscar has struggled to articulate his thoughts and feelings all of his life due to suffering from a social anxiety that affects his speech. Drowning in his silence, Oscar has missed out on several opportunities due to this misfortune. The only person he is able to confide in is his friend, Maya, who is also battling with her own insecurities due to an unhealthy relationship with her family. Both character’s inner conflicts seem to bring them closer together, which results in Oscar developing romantic feelings for Maya who is not in a position to fall in love.

This is the portrait of a man who lives between two sides of a socially divided city. David Cairns shares his life between his part-time job selling wine in the posh West End of Glasgow and his volunteer work in the East End trying to tackle food poverty. He is as passionate about food as he is about finding ways to bring it to those in need. His perseverance comes from a past experience that opened his eyes to a reality he had never seen before.

‘Hisland’ is a short portrait documentary of a 66-year-old man living in a remote village in the Scottish Highlands. Shown through the perspective of a father-daughter relationship, it highlights the social and physical distance that he faces every day and focuses on the shift of vulnerability that occurs as time passes.

#JaMei

#JaMei is a commercial for the Bavarian Forest region which was screened at the Bavarian Film Awards. Story: While “travel Lisa” is telling about all her fancy journeys to exotic places, her friend experiences a sudden flashback to the summer which he spent mountain biking in the Bavarian Forest.

Project “SOURCE”

“SOURCE” which stands for “Stuttgart Operated University Research Cubesat for Evaluation and Education” is a space engineering project of the Stuttgart-based student association “KSat e.V.”. For the past few years they have been developing a nano-satellite with dimensions of only 10*10*36 cm which is actually going to be sent to space. To showcase their work, I have shot several interviews and behind-the-scenes clips for YouTube and Instagram together with them.
